Nothing has stirred my sense of conscious and fear for my family more than our unbridled expansion of gun violence. It seems we are all players in a game contrived by the NRA to accept these senseless acts of violence as part of the culture of our nation. Well I for one would like to get off of their bandwagon. The fact that I can be sitting in a McDonald's in a small town like San Ysidro, going to school or university these days, shopping for a present, meeting a congresswomen at a political event or even going into a movie theater and have me or my family members accosted is insane.
Well this week has been without exception another cavalcade of senseless violence directed at people in general. So expect the fodder from the NRA advising us and their supporters that guns don’t kill people, people kill people unfortunately their tool of choice is to usually use a gun. I hear that there’s a war on pretty much everything from Fox News. Everything from the Church to Christmas but no one seems to have declared a war on the NRA. It should make all of our souls cry out that the special interest group that allows atrocities like the inner city violence in Chicago, Philadelphia and as of yesterday Portland finds the American people hitched to a wagon with no course in mind. Why would the NRA speak out the paranoia has this year’s number one item from Santa is a new gun.
Yep, gun sales are booming, paranoia is running rampant and to the NRA Americans are sheep slowly being lead to slaughter by our reluctance to even speak out. It’s intriguing that we hold ourselves to an Amendment placed in the Constitution in December of 1791. It’s been able to endure 221 years of existence and as it currently stands based on population size and the volume we are still not number one in gun violence. However we are the only super power that still holds a place in the top ten.

# 9 Macedonia, Republic of: 35.6164
# 10 Uruguay: 35.2941
# 11 Côte d'Ivoire: 33.6982
We are still being beaten by Thailand, South Africa and Columbia based on primarily on population size unfortunately others have grasped the concept that there has to be rules in place for all things. Before the serious hunters, police officers and my Army buddies start reaching out to me I’m not advocating the removal of guns from our culture. I do however think that there should be a voice outside of the NRA advocating gun safety and control. There has to be someone with influence to speak on gun violence in the inner city and controls on the purchases of hand guns. Some control on the volume of rounds that can be placed into a clip. What happened to one shot one kill.
The United States is a nation fascinated with guns from video games, movies, even a church that recently asked all its members to show up carrying firearms. Yes it’s always been about God and guns but at some point I for one am hoping that some degree of common-sense becomes part of this confusing puzzle as well.
